The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a packed schedule for the men’s domestic cricket tournaments set to take place in 2025, promising a year full of competitive action across all formats. With a total of 21 tournaments planned, including three major first-class tournaments, the PCB aims to provide ample opportunities for players to showcase their talent and prepare for the international stage.
First-Class and White-Ball Action
The calendar kicks off with the ongoing President’s Trophy Grade-I in January and February, followed by the National T20 Cup in March, featuring 18 teams from 16 regions. April and May will see the President’s Trophy Grade-II, a non-first-class three-day departmental tournament, running concurrently with the highly anticipated Pakistan Super League 10.
The red-ball season resumes in September and October with the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and the Champions Cup, offering players crucial match experience to vie for spots in the national Test team. The President’s Cup Grade-I, a 50-over List-A tournament, will be held in November-December, concluding with the Champions T20 Cup in December.
Development Pathways and Age-Group Competitions
In a strategic move to nurture young talent, the PCB has revamped its age-group structure, introducing the U15 and U17 tournaments, replacing the U13 and U16 categories. This initiative is designed to maximize participation and provide teenagers with more time to develop their skills.
The National U19 Cup in September will feature 18 regional teams, drawing top talent from inter-district competitions. October and November will host the inaugural Champions U19 One-day Cup and three-day Trophy, bringing together the best U19 players under the guidance of experienced mentors.
A Year Packed with Over 10,000 Matches
With over 10,000 matches planned across clubs, schools, colleges, and universities, the PCB aims to widen the talent scouting net and strengthen the foundations of Pakistani cricket. The PCB has also scheduled extensive training, fitness, and conditioning camps during a three-month break following the PSL, ensuring players are well-prepared for the latter half of the year.
PCB’s Commitment to Grassroots Development
The extensive schedule reflects PCB’s commitment to developing cricket at all levels, from grassroots to the national team. “These tournaments provide a clear pathway for aspiring cricketers to progress through the ranks,” said a PCB spokesperson. The inclusion of events like the Inter-Schools, Inter-Colleges, and Inter-University Tournaments further emphasizes the board’s focus on expanding cricket’s reach and engaging young athletes nationwide.
The 2025 domestic season not only promises exciting cricket but also plays a crucial role in shaping the future stars of Pakistan cricket. As the calendar unfolds, players and fans alike can look forward to a year of fierce competition and thrilling performances.
