7th Sky Entertainment’s Dour ends on a relatively hopeful note

7th Sky Entertainment’s intense drama serial Dour finally came to its end last night, leaving the viewers satisfied with the turn-in events. The story, written by Saji Gull, directed by Mazhar Moin, and produced by the ace producers Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi, the story mainly centers on Mrs Ehtisham and her willingness to go to any length to hide her dark past. With the ever-impressive team of Sania Saeed, Hina Altaf, Ali Abbas, and Azfar Rehman, the drama has won the hearts of the audiences right from the first episode.

In Mrs Ehtisham, Sania Saeed portrays a horrendous individual. A person so vile and revolting, you couldn’t imagine Sania Saeed playing it. To protect her present self from her dark past, she is willing to go any extent. This is what the story is really about. In the finale, she fails as Roman becomes aware of her past. To her great surprise, he isn’t interested in protecting himself or his wealth. In fact, Roman loathes the loss of a mother. While she is alive, Mrs Ehtisham’s no longer worthy of being called a mother as per her son.

That realization is too much to take for her. In her final moments, she looks back with great pain at all the actions she had taken to reach this point of no return. There was no redemption for her. Mrs Ehtisham’s story had a logical end and that is what we saw in the final episode.

Abaan, however, does get a second chance. Asma and Roman are able to forgive and forget. Rather they help him stand up on his feet, literally and figuratively. Abaan regrets his actions and realizes his mistakes.

One of the most interesting roles was essayed by Hina Altaf. As Asma, she has to be in the same ring as Sania Saeed and to match her is a feat in itself. Another challenge was that this wasn’t a typical role of a wife we are accustomed to seeing. Her husband plays a central role in her life but there is more to it as well. She has a range of other problems. Something many could personally relate to. At the end, she returns to Roman and as mentioned earlier forgives Abaan. Her selfless and integrity remained unquestionable.

From the viewers’ point of view, there is a lot to unpick here. Like most of 7th Sky Entertainment’s productions, this drama also grabs the attention from the very start and retains it till end. The last episode was paced beautifully and each character had good enough screen time to bring proper closure.

There have been plenty of twists and turns in Dour. Perhaps that is why we have been hooked to it. In fact, Dour is one of those drama which you would like to binge watch later. There would be subtle nuances and foreshadowing that could have been easily. There was a lot going on and the way the director approached the story made it worthwhile. Once again, the dynamic duo of Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi has left us all in awe with this masterpiece. This is what intelligent storytelling perked up with top class performances looks like. Dour would be remembered by its viewers for a long…long time!
