Pakistani bowlers have always been headline of bowling statistics and record books. Pakistan has given some great pacers, off-spinners, leg-spinners who washboard apart batting line-ups.
Hat-tricks shatter the opposition batting line and Pakistani bowlers have had this triumph eight times in ODI Cricket, the most by any country. In fact, the first ever hat-trick in ODI Cricket was also taken by a Pakistani bowler. Below are all the hat-tricks taken by Pakistani bowlers
1. Jalaluddin vs Australia in 1982 at Hyderabad
The maiden hat-trick in ODI cricket was taken just a decade after the first ever ODI game. Jalaluddin achieved it Austraila at the Niaz Stadium of Hyderabad. Australia were 157/3 when Jalaluddin dismissed Rod Marsh, Bruce Yardley and Geoff Lawson on the trot. Australia was all out on 169.
2. Wasim Akram vs West Indies in 1989 at Shajrah
Wasim Akram achieved his first hat-trick against mighty West Indian side during the 2nd match of Sharjah Champions Trophy 1989. Jeff Dujon, Malcolm Marshall and Curtly Ambrose were bowled by Wasim Akram as he became second Pakistani to take an ODI hat-trick. West Indies were all out at 251 just 11 runs short .
3. Wasim Akram vs Australia 1990 at Shajrah
Wasim Akram became first ever cricketer to take more than one hat-trick in ODI cricket. He took his second ODI hat-trick against Australia in the final of Austral-Asia Cup 1990. Just like his previous hat-trick, whcih he tookl a year earlier, this time too all three batsmen Merv Barnes, Carl Rackemann and Terry Alderman were bowled out.
4. Aqib Javed vs India in 1991 at Sharjah
Aqib Javed picket up his hat-trick in a much-hyped game against India, as it was the final of Wills Trophy 1991 in Sharjah. India, while chasing 263 runs target, had a steady start of 47 for 1. Aqib unleashed a most remarkable spell of bowling as he dismissed Ravi Shastri, Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar. Aqib also achieved the record of best bowling figures in an ODI 7/37, a record at that time.
5. Waqar Younis vs New Zealand in 1994 at Auckland
New Zealand’s innings was in quite a bad shape as they were 7 down at 172 during the 4th ODI of Pakistan tour to New Zealand. Waqar Younis finished the innings in just three deliveries as he bowled out Chris Harris, Chris Pringle and Richard de Groen.
6. Saqlain Mushtaq vs Zimbabwe in 1996 at Peshawar
Saqlain Mushtaq is the first Pakistani spinner to take a hat-trick in ODI Cricket as he sent Zimbabwe’s Grants Flower, John Rennie and Andy Whittal back to the pavillion. It was 3rd and final ODI of Zimbabwe Tour to Pakistan 1996/97.
7. Saqlain Mushtaq vs Zimbabwe 1999
During the last match of Pakistan in the Super Six round of ICC Cricket World Cup 1999, Saqlain became the second bowler after Wasim Akram to take two hat-tricks in ODI Cricket. He took wickets of Holly Olanga, Adam Huckle and Pommie Mbangwa to win the match and a spot in the Semi-Finals.
8. Muhammad Sami vs West Indies in 2002 at Sharjah
The last time a Pakistani took a hat-trick in an ODI was in 2002 as Muhammad Sami took wickets of Ridley Jacobs, Corey Collymore, and Cameron Cuffy to achieve the feat. Mohammad Sami also has a unique achievement of having hat-trick in Test Cricket, ODI Cricket, and T20 cricket.
