A Mixed Bag for Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team: Mohammad Wasim reviews Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 campaign

Head coach Mohammad Wasim has expressed mixed emotions about the Pakistan women’s cricket team’s performance in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024. While he was satisfied with the team’s overall performance, he was disappointed that they couldn’t make it to the final.

“The team’s overall performance was good, but not reaching the final is disappointing,” Wasim said. “The team played good cricket, taking matches to the last over. There were many positives to take away.”

Wasim noted that the team’s performance improved after the first match, with the batting department showing significant growth. “We gave our batters freedom, and it paid off with performances like Gul Feroza and Muneeba Ali,” he said.

The young leg-spinners impressed Wasim, but he acknowledged that they struggled under pressure in the semi-final. “Saadia Iqbal performed exceptionally well,” he added.

Wasim identified areas for improvement, including managing pressure on young players, improving batting mindset, increasing discipline in bowling, and enhancing fielding and fitness. “We need to work on how to get performances from players under pressure,” he said.

Overall, Wasim’s review highlighted the team’s potential while emphasizing the need for refinement in key areas to achieve greater success.
