Abrar Ahmed and Kamran Ghulam Released from Pakistan Test Squad, to Represent Shaheens in Four-Day Match

Wrist spinner Abrar Ahmed and uncapped top-order batter Kamran Ghulam have been released from the Pakistan Test side and will now feature in the Pakistan Shaheens’ squad for the second four-day match against Bangladesh ‘A,’ starting on Tuesday, 20 August, at the Islamabad Club.

The decision to release Abrar was made after the selectors opted for an all-pace attack for the first ICC World Test Championship match against Bangladesh, scheduled to take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, 21 August. Instead of being benched for the Test, Abrar has been given the opportunity to gain valuable match practice in the Shaheens’ fixture, ahead of the second Test starting on 30 August.

Kamran Ghulam, who was also released from the Test squad, has been retained in the Shaheens’ side for the second four-day match and has been appointed as the captain. Both Abrar and Kamran will rejoin the Pakistan Test squad after the conclusion of the Shaheens’ match, bringing the Test squad back to its full strength of 17 players.

Several other players from the Pakistan Shaheens, including Mir Hamza, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Huraira, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Saud Shakeel, have joined the Test side in preparation for the upcoming match against Bangladesh. Mohammad Rameez Jnr has been left out of the Shaheens squad for the second four-day game.

The Shaheens squad for the upcoming match sees the inclusion of Abrar Ahmed, Ali Zaryab, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Awais Anwar, Niaz Khan, Qasim Akram, Rohail Nazir, and Sharoon Siraj, replacing those who have joined the Test side.

Pakistan Shaheens Squad (Second Four-Day Match): Kamran Ghulam (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Ali Zaryab, Ghulam Mudassar, Imam-ul-Haq, Mehran Mumtaz, Mohammad Awais Anwar, Niaz Khan, Qasim Akram, Rohail Nazir (wicket-keeper), Saad Baig (wicket-keeper), Saad Khan, Sharoon Siraj, and Umar Amin.
