The second day of the fifth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-2024 featured remarkable performances, with Ahmed Shehzad stealing the limelight by smashing a sensational double-century, propelling Lahore Whites to an imposing total of 568 runs in their first innings at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Lahore Whites vs. Peshawar at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore:
Lahore Whites continued their impressive batting display, starting the day at 375 for two. Veteran batsman Ahmed Shehzad led the charge with an outstanding double century (253), setting the stage for Lahore Whites to reach a formidable total. Umar Akmal contributed with 64 runs, while Mehran Ibrahim took five wickets for Peshawar. Peshawar, in response, managed to score 76 runs for the loss of one wicket by the time stumps were drawn. Skipper Sahibzada Farhan (33 not out) and Waqar Ahmed Sr (29 not out) stood firm.
Multan vs. Karachi Whites at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi:
At Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi, Karachi Whites began the day at 86 for five. Their innings ended at 194, with Saim Ayub being the second-highest scorer with 40 runs. Zahid Mehmood claimed a five-wicket haul. In response, Multan reached 169 for three in their second innings, thanks to Imran Rafiq’s 70 and Sharoon Siraj’s unbeaten 60. Asad Shafiq, Noman Ali, and Ghulam Mudassar took one wicket each.
Rawalpindi vs. Lahore Blues at Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi:
At Pindi Cricket Stadium, Lahore Blues continued their dominance from the previous day, starting at 359 for four. However, Rawalpindi’s Kashif Ali picked up six wickets, limiting Lahore Blues to a total of 396 runs. Pacer Hussain Talat (104) and Junaid Ali (102) had earlier notched up centuries. In reply, Rawalpindi struggled, scoring 176 runs before being bowled out in 50.2 overs. Lahore Blues enforced the follow-on, and Rawalpindi were 40 for no loss at stumps.
FATA vs. Faisalabad at Abbottabad Cricket Stadium:
At Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, FATA began their innings from nine runs for one. Khurram Shahzad starred with a magnificent six-wicket haul, bundling FATA out for 128. In response, Faisalabad scored 128 for five in 38.3 overs, with Taimoor Sultan contributing 52 runs. Mohammad Irfan and Arshad Ullah took two wickets each for FATA.
