Aijaz Aslam Makes You Root for Jahangir with his winning act in ‘Nand’

Aijaz Aslam is one of the most recognizable names of the Pakistani television industry. He is an actor and producer par excellence and has been associated with several blockbuster shows and projects. With a career spanning more than two decades, Aslam has done it all from light-hearted comedy plays to intense dramas and projects that depict complex family dynamics and relationships. Despite being in the industry for as long as he has been, Aslam continues to wow his audiences with each of his characters and his ability to try something new each time he appears on the screen.

Aslam is currently gracing our screens in the show Nand, which revolves around an overly possessive sister who can’t stand her brother’s new wife. She does whatever she can to ruin her life just to maintain her position and importance in the family. The sister’s character Gohar is married to Jahangir, played by Aijaz Aslam, who delivers an extremely understated performance. Gohar is a highly unlikeable character that is arrogant, toxic to her family and anyone around her. She leaves no stone unturned to cause chaos wherever she is. Despite being married to a loving husband who is nothing short of supportive and compassionate towards her, Gohar instigates a massive fight with him that ends with her going to her mother’s place along with their son Umer.

Jahangir is an easy-going working-class man who loves his family. He does whatever makes her wife and son happy and places their needs above his. Despite not being at fault, he tries his best to mend things over with Gohar, but she dismisses all his efforts and refuses to let him meet their son. She even refuses to take his calls after a point. Aslam succeeds in putting out his helplessness for the viewers. You can see he’s a man who’s tired of missing his son when all he wants to do is spend time with him. He goes to see his son at his school and puts on a wide smile on his face when he hands him a bag of lunch and promises him to get the game CDs that he can use when he comes home. There’s angst and hopefulness on his face when he calls his wife’s brother and asks him to talk to Gohar so she can let Jahangir take Umer for the night with him and drop him back home. No father should have to request and plead to be with his child, and Aslam conveys all of that beautifully and makes you root for him.

After his acclaimed performance in his latest drama Log Kia Kahenge, Aijaz Aslam is once again setting the bar high with this drama serial, and we are looking forward to seeing what else he has in store for us.
