A display of unwavering patience and stroke-filled dominance from Ali Zaryab saw Lahore Whites seize control over Sialkot on the third day of their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy triangular stage fixture at the National Bank Stadium. Zaryab’s unbeaten 202, his second first-class double century, anchored Lahore Whites to a formidable 628-9 in 148 overs, establishing a commanding 163-run first-innings lead.
Zaryab’s Masterclass and Obaid Shahid’s Supporting Act
Resuming from an overnight 240-2, Lahore Whites capitalized on their strong foundation. Zaryab, the left-handed opener, exhibited immense concentration and elegance, crafting a sublime 202* off 357 balls, punctuated by 23 boundaries. His ability to control the innings ensured Lahore Whites remained in pole position throughout the day.
Adding further weight to the batting onslaught, Obaid Shahid played a fluent knock of 121 off 154 deliveries, peppered with 16 boundaries. His century, alongside Zaryab’s marathon innings, thwarted Sialkot’s bowling attack, despite efforts from Shahzaib Bhatti, who toiled for figures of 4-232. Captain Amad Butt chipped in with two wickets, but Sialkot’s bowlers struggled to contain Lahore’s relentless charge.
Tayyab Tahir’s quickfire 47 off 61 balls added to Sialkot’s misery before stumps were called with Lahore Whites firmly in control.
Sialkot’s Effort and the Road Ahead
Earlier in the match, Sialkot had posted a competitive 465, led by Azan Awais’ majestic 168 and Ashir Mehmood’s century. However, Lahore Whites’ monumental response now leaves Sialkot needing a spirited fightback on the final day to avoid being completely overshadowed.
With a significant lead on the board and only one day remaining, Lahore Whites hold all the aces. The final day will test Sialkot’s resilience, as Lahore looks to press home their advantage and push for a decisive result.
