Muqaddar, 7th Sky Entertainment’s major project, has been garnering attention for its unique storyline and brilliant performances. Produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi, the story follows Sardar Saif-ur-Rehman (Faysal Qureshi) – an influential Cambridge returned feudal tycoon who loses his heart to Raima (Madiha Imam) during a radio interview. Saif uses his power and influence to kidnap Raima and forcefully marries her. Needless to say, Sardar is the major attraction of the play, but Raima’s towering character manages to steal the limelight, melting our hearts and giving us goosebumps several times.
1) The Character Transition
Raima, as the young, sincere, and modern girl, enjoys life to the fullest. Her character takes a 360-degree turn when she becomes the victim of misogyny and injustice. Her world changes upside down when she is unwillingly transported to the feudal state where the landlords are the king of their own believers, with insatiable desires of women, power, and wealth. Raima’s helplessness, pain, agony and being treated like an object of desire surely make the viewers weep.
2) Her helplessness around her kidnapper
The viewers empathize with Raima with a complete understanding of the situation and circumstances. When she initially gets kidnapped by Sardar Saif-ur-Rehman, she makes you cry because the viewers can see she doesn’t even know what is happening to her. Her pain is felt beyond the screens; her emotions arousing levels of empathy you wouldn’t otherwise experience.
3) The way she connects with the house-help at Saif-ur-Rehman’s home
The story reveals important details at crucial moments, delivering surprises when you least expect it. The icing on the cake is Raima’s character that has resulted in fostering a connection with the viewers not because she is a victim, but she is real. It is a complex, layered character, brimming with emotions and passions – passion for what it means to be human. Even though she was brought to Saif-ur-Rehman’s home against her will, she treats everyone well.
4) Never a happy moment
The makers grab the viewer’s interest by going into flashbacks through Raima’s thoughts. We are intrigued by many powerful scenes, for instance, when Sardar suddenly asks Raima if she still hasn’t forgotten her fiancé Haris (Ali Ansari). Another interesting bit is when Saad (Haroon Shahid) spots her at the shopping mall and eventually finds her out to be Mrs. Saif. All these instances leave you wondering if Raima will even find her happiness.
So far, each episode of Muqaddar ends with a thrilling cliffhanger, leaving the viewer wanting more of what’s next. We are anxious to know if the future will bring any happy moments for Raima.
