“An Honor to Captain at Home”- Captain Rameen Shamim Leads Pakistan Women A in One-Day Series Against West Indies Women A

Pakistan Women A are gearing up to face West Indies Women A in a highly anticipated three-match one-day series. This series marks the first-ever tour by West Indies Women A to Pakistan and will be played at two venues in Lahore – Gaddafi Stadium and Ghani Institute for Cricket – from 24 to 29 October 2023.

After the one-day series, Pakistan Women A will participate in a T20 tri-series involving West Indies Women A and Thailand’s emerging team, which is scheduled from 3 to 8 November. Additionally, Pakistan Women A and Thailand’s emerging team will feature in two T20 matches on 10 and 11 November. All the games will be streamed live on the PCB’s YouTube channel.

The Pakistan Women A squad was selected after assessing the performance of 28 players during the probables camp held at the Lahore Country Club in Muridke. The team will be led by off-spinner Rameen Shamim, who has represented Pakistan in three ODIs and four T20Is. She previously captained Pakistan Women A during their successful tour of West Indies in 2021, where they whitewashed the home side in both T20 and one-day series.

The squad also includes internationally capped players such as Gull Feroza, Omaima Sohail, Shawaal Zulfiqar, Sidra Nawaz, and Tuba Hassan. Notably, Eyman Fatima and Anosha Nasir were part of Pakistan’s squad for the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup, with Eyman and Anosha being the highest run-getter and highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in the tournament, respectively.

Rameen Shamim expressed her excitement about leading Pakistan Women A at home, saying, “It is a very big honor for me to captain Pakistan Women A, especially during a home series. Whenever we play a home series, it is always a lot more exciting. Of course, there is pressure as well, but playing at home is a different experience altogether.”

Rashada Williams, captain of West Indies Women A, also shared her thoughts, “It is a privilege to be here, playing for and representing West Indies. It is an honor to lead the group. I am hoping to do my best and show my leadership qualities and gel the unit.”
