At just 17 years old, Anoosha Nasir has quickly emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the cricketing world. Her exceptional skills and outstanding performances have captured the attention of fans and experts alike, establishing her as a promising talent in the sport. Anoosha’s recent achievements in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa have solidified her reputation, as she claimed an impressive tally of 10 wickets from five matches. As she prepares for the ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Hong Kong later this month, her inclusion in the Pakistan team adds depth and diversity to their lineup.
Originating from Karachi, Anoosha’s cricketing journey began in the Skills 2 Shine U18 T20 Women Cricket Championship 2019-20 held in Lahore. Representing the Northern Renegades, she finished at the top of the bowling charts with six wickets from four matches, leading her side to the tournament final.
Her standout performances continued in the Pakistan Cup Women’s One-Day Cup 2021-22, where she represented the PCB Challengers. Anoosha secured 14 wickets from seven matches, including an impressive five-wicket haul. Her five-for was the only one achieved in the tournament, earning her second place in the bowling charts.
To select the squad for the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board organized the Women’s U19 T20 Tournament in August 2022. Anoosha, playing as a right-handed batter for the Sindh Women U19 team, scored 65 runs from three innings and also contributed three wickets to the team’s success.
Three months later, Anoosha represented PCB Challengers in phase two of the T20 Women’s Cricket Tournament, claiming five wickets from three outings. Her best figures of four for 24 came in a match against Dynamites on 6 December at the LCCA Ground.
Continuing her form, Anoosha showcased her talent for the Strikers in the T20 phase of the Pakistan Cup Women’s Cricket Tournament 2022-23, where she picked up five wickets from two matches during the first phase held in Karachi.
Speaking on the sidelines of the camp for the ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023 in Karachi, Anoosha expressed her gratitude to her family, particularly her father, for their unwavering support throughout her cricketing journey. She acknowledged the encouragement she receives from her father, who stays by her side during practice sessions, fueling her passion for the game.
Anoosha credits former Pakistan women’s cricketer Sana Mir as her inspiration to pursue cricket. Reflecting on her experience bowling to senior players, Anoosha expressed her delight in playing alongside them, which has undoubtedly contributed to her consistent performance at such a young age.
Recalling her experience representing Pakistan in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, Anoosha described it as a dream come true. She achieved her goal of becoming Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament by giving her best on the field.
As Anoosha continues her journey on the international stage, she will play a pivotal role in Fatima Sana-led Pakistan squad for the upcoming ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup.
