The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former international fast bowler Aqib Javed as the interim head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. Aqib will hold the position until the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled from 19 February to 9 March.
Aqib will also continue his role as a senior member of the National Selection Committee, with additional responsibilities to follow after the conclusion of the eight-team tournament.
The PCB announced that the recruitment process for a permanent white-ball head coach will commence shortly, with the aim to finalize the appointment by the end of the Champions Trophy.
This interim appointment follows the resignation of Gary Kirsten as white-ball head coach. Jason Gillespie, the red-ball head coach, temporarily took charge of the side during the recent tour of Australia and will now return to oversee the two-Test series against South Africa in December.
Pakistan’s men’s cricket schedule remains packed, with upcoming white-ball tours to Zimbabwe (24 November – 5 December) and South Africa (10-22 December). Ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, the team will host New Zealand and South Africa for a tri-series from 8-14 February.
Aqib Javed, known for his tactical acumen and contributions as a selector, steps into this critical role during a pivotal period for Pakistan cricket, with high expectations as the team prepares to host a major ICC event on home soil.
