Aqib Javed’s remarkable journey with Lahore Qalandars has come to a close as he takes on a new challenge with the Pakistan national team. After an eight-year tenure that saw him serve as Director of Cricket Operations and Head Coach, Aqib leaves behind a legacy of success and innovation.

Aqib, 52, first joined the Lahore Qalandars in June 2016. During his time with the franchise, the team made three PSL final appearances between 2020 and 2023, capturing back-to-back titles. One of Aqib’s most notable contributions was his leadership of the Qalandars’ Player Development Program (PDP), which unearthed and nurtured young cricket talent, creating a strong pipeline for the future of Pakistan cricket.

Reflecting on his time with the Qalandars, Aqib said: “My journey with Lahore Qalandars has been truly special, and I’m grateful for the unforgettable moments and shared achievements. The Player Development Program, in particular, has been a deeply fulfilling part of my career. I leave the franchise knowing that I contributed to its growth, both on and off the field, but I am ready to take on the exciting challenge of serving the national team.”

Sameen Rana, Lahore Qalandars’ co-owner, expressed his gratitude: “Aqib Bhai has been instrumental in shaping the identity of Lahore Qalandars. His efforts in guiding us to PSL titles and cultivating young talent through the PDP have left a lasting legacy. While we will miss him dearly, we are thrilled for him as he takes this next step in his career with Pakistan cricket.”

With Aqib’s departure, Lahore Qalandars will continue to carry forward the vision and philosophy he helped build, while the national team stands to benefit from his wealth of experience.
