Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan has been dealt a blow as he has been advised to undergo a 10-day rest following radiology reports confirming a Grade One tear of his right calf muscle. As a result, Azam will be unable to participate in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand, which culminates in Lahore on April 27.
The discomfort in Azam’s right calf was first noticed during batting practice in the pre-first T20I training session at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Subsequent radiology reports confirmed the extent of the injury, prompting the decision for Azam to undergo a period of rest and rehabilitation.
In light of this development, Azam will depart from the Pakistan men’s cricket team and report to the National Cricket Academy. There, he will commence his rehabilitation process under the supervision of the PCB medical panel, aiming for a swift recovery.
Azam’s absence from the squad presents a challenge for Pakistan as they aim to bounce back in the series against New Zealand. His explosive batting and wicketkeeping skills have been valuable assets for the team, and his absence will be keenly felt.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) medical team will closely monitor Azam’s progress during his rehabilitation period, ensuring that he receives the necessary treatment and support for a full recovery.
The news comes as a setback for both Azam and the Pakistan team, highlighting the unpredictable nature of sports and the importance of player fitness and well-being in international cricket competitions.
