Azhar Ali Appointed PCB Head of Youth Development

Former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali has been appointed as the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Head of Youth Development, a role that extends his current responsibilities as a member of the Men’s National Selection Committee.

Azhar, a stalwart of Pakistan cricket, brings unparalleled experience to the position. His illustrious career began with the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2002 and transitioned to a celebrated international journey from 2010 to 2022. With 97 Test and 53 ODI appearances, Azhar captained Pakistan in nine Tests and 31 ODIs, and was a vital member of the squad that clinched the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.

In his new role, Azhar is tasked with:

  • Youth Cricket Strategies: Designing and implementing long-term plans for grassroots development.
  • Talent Pathways: Establishing robust structures to identify and nurture emerging players.
  • Regional Collaboration: Strengthening age-group cricket programs in partnership with regional cricket associations.
  • Pathways Programme: Educating young cricketers on the PCB’s development initiatives.
  • Off-Field Development: Organizing seminars and clinics to foster essential skills beyond cricket.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Azhar stated:

“I am honored and excited to take on this important role. Having risen through the age-group ranks and played extensive club and domestic cricket, I understand the critical role grassroots development plays in shaping future stars.
