Azhar Ali’s Milestone Century Puts SNGPL in Commanding Position

Karachi witnessed exhilarating cricket action on the second day of the President’s Trophy Grade I 2023-24 as Azhar Ali’s 50th first-class century steered SNGPL into a commanding position against KRL. The day also witnessed SBP edging closer to victory against WAPDA while Ghani Glass continued their strong performance against HEC.

SNGPL’s response to KRL’s 281-9 was formidable as they concluded the day at 349-7 in 80 overs. Azhar Ali’s majestic knock of 140, which marked his 50th first-class century, propelled SNGPL’s charge. Azhar was supported by Abid Ali’s 61 and a quickfire 69 from skipper Asad Shafiq, allowing SNGPL to establish a significant lead of 68 runs. KRL’s Maaz Sadaqat bagged three crucial wickets while Umer Khan contributed with one dismissal.

By the day’s end, KRL managed 56-2 in 17 overs in their second innings, trailing by 12 runs. Ali Zaryab’s unbeaten 25 steadied KRL’s innings alongside Imran Rafiq’s unbeaten 2. SNGPL’s Mubasir Khan impressed with figures of 2-6.

SBP vs WAPDA at State Bank Stadium

SBP took firm control of their match against WAPDA, starting the day at 77-4 and eventually gaining an 82-run lead. Rameez Aziz’s resilient 71 and Mohammad Mohsin’s 59 bolstered SBP’s innings, setting a target of 40 for WAPDA. Akif Javed showcased his prowess by taking four wickets for WAPDA, while Afaq Afridi’s six-wicket haul and Aftab Ibrahim’s three-wicket contribution limited WAPDA to a mere 122 in their second innings.

Ghani Glass vs HEC at UBL Sports Complex

Ghani Glass dominated proceedings against HEC, extending their lead to a staggering 362 runs. Saad Nasim’s sublime century of 115 and Saeed Ali’s unbeaten 97 lifted Ghani Glass to 330-5. HEC’s Aqib Liaqat took two wickets, while Asadullah Hamza, Waseem Akram, and Haris Khan managed a dismissal each.

The relentless display from Azhar Ali, coupled with strong performances from SNGPL and SBP, has set the stage for thrilling encounters in the upcoming days. Ghani Glass remains in a formidable position against HEC, promising more gripping action in this round of the President’s Trophy Grade I 2023-24.
