Babar Azam Breaks Virat Kohli’s Record: Fastest Captain to 2000 ODI Runs

Pakistani cricket sensation Babar Azam continues to make headlines as he breaks records in the world of cricket. In the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, the 28-year-old skipper has achieved another remarkable feat, surpassing none other than the “chase master” Virat Kohli.

Azam’s latest achievement came during the Pakistan vs Bangladesh encounter in the first Super Four match held at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. In just 31 innings, Babar Azam became the fastest captain to reach 2000 ODI runs, breaking Virat Kohli’s previous record of achieving this milestone in 36 innings.

This remarkable accomplishment places Babar Azam in an elite category among some of the greatest cricket captains. South Africa’s AB de Villiers achieved this milestone in 41 innings, while Australia’s Michael Clarke reached it in 47 innings. India’s MS Dhoni and England’s Eoin Morgan took 48 innings each to achieve this feat.

Babar Azam’s journey in international cricket began with his debut against Zimbabwe in Lahore in 2015, and since then, he has played a pivotal role in transforming Pakistan’s cricketing fortunes. Under his captaincy, Pakistan has risen to the number one rank in ODIs, establishing themselves as a formidable team in the format.

Azam’s exceptional batting skills have consistently contributed to his team’s success. He has not only broken numerous records but also continues to set new milestones. Earlier, Babar Azam broke the record held by former South African batsman Hashim Amla by becoming the fastest player to score 19 ODI centuries, accomplishing this feat in just 102 innings compared to Amla’s 104 innings.

In addition to this, Babar Azam also overtook Amla in terms of runs scored in 102 innings, amassing 5353 runs to Amla’s 5165.

With his exceptional performances, Babar Azam has become the key to Pakistan’s recent successes and has proven his mettle as one of the finest batsmen in modern cricket.

In the recent match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first but struggled to post a competitive total. They managed to score 193 runs in their first innings, with the Pakistani pace attack wreaking havoc on their batting lineup.

As Babar Azam continues to shine on the cricket field, fans around the world eagerly await his next record-breaking performance, as he cements his place among the cricketing legends.
