The Colombo Strikers are gearing up to assemble a formidable team for the upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL) Auction, scheduled to take place in Colombo on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. With the inclusion of Pakistan captain Babar Azam, talented speedster Naseem Shah, and Sri Lankan T20 stars Matheesha Pathirana and Chamika Karunaratne, the Strikers are leaving no stone unturned to build a strong side for the LPL 2023.
Anticipation is high as the Auction approaches, and Babar Azam, the Pakistan cricket superstar, emphasized its significance by stating, “The Auction is the most crucial aspect of any franchise cricket tournament. We have discussed the type of players we need, and our goal is to form the strongest side in the tournament.”
Head Coach Simon Helmot shared his strategy, highlighting the importance of explosive batsmen and wicket-taking bowlers, saying, “T20 cricket has evolved over the years. We aim to acquire players who can make a significant impact and execute our plans to play an aggressive brand of cricket.”
Bowling Coach Chaminda Vaas stressed the importance of local talent in franchise cricket, stating, “We have identified a few names that we would like to acquire in the Auction. Our focus is on constructing a well-balanced bowling unit, and we hope to achieve that during the Auction.”
Assistant Coach Jerome Jayaratne acknowledged the challenges of the Auction, saying, “The Auction can be tricky. We need to remain composed and stick to our budget. While we are interested in securing superstars, we are also keen on nurturing young local talents.”
Franchise owner Sagar Khanna expressed the team’s determination to start strongly, saying, “The Auction is crucial for us to make a mark in the tournament. With our dedicated coaching staff and analysts, we are preparing rigorously for the Auction. Our aim is to construct the best possible team and make a strong impact.”
The Colombo Strikers will make their debut in the Lanka Premier League, set to take place in July-August 2023. As the Auction draws near, the excitement and anticipation continue to grow, with fans eagerly waiting to see how the Strikers shape their squad and compete in their first season of the LPL.
