Bandhay Ek Dour Se became a crowd favorite right from its first promo. The beautiful visuals, interesting imagery, and a melodious score had the audiences hooked to the show. The promo was followed up by the show’s original OST that features the leads Ahsan Khan, Hina Altaf, and Ushna Shah. Within days, the OST became a chartbuster and has garnered more than a million views by now. It became the most talked-about show and got praise for the fresh pairing and chemistry of its leads even before the first episode came out.
The first episode came out last week and delivered exactly what it promised; wholesome entertainment that is sure to win your hearts. The show revolves around a dysfunctional middle class and their sweet and sour relationships with each other. Umar, played by Ahsan Khan, is a young man who is in love with Roshni, who is played by Hina Altaf. Roshni happens to be Umar’s aunt, Zakia’s neighbor. In the first episode, we are introduced to the present day happenings in the family. Umar’s mother had a verbal spat with Zakia on a previous occasion, which is why the two are at loggerheads with each other. Zakia’s husband has passed away, and she feels her mother in law, Umar’s grandmother, and his parents don’t look after their deceased son and brother’s family. Umar is childhood friends with Zakia’s daughter Maheen since the two have grown up together. She is also the one who has helped him meet Roshni over the years and has been his constant confidante in the matter.
Umar wants his mother and aunt to become friends so that Zakia can suggest Roshni for Umar to his mother. That’s because he knows his mother will never agree for a girl that he has chosen for himself. An example of that is his older brother’s wife, who his mother never accepted, and now she has a separate kitchen in the same house. Amidst all this, Maheen’s marriage gets fixed, and her engagement is about to happen soon. He sees this as an opportunity to bring his aunt and mother together to move forward for him. After a lot of struggle from Umar’s side, the two women meet. That’s when Umar finds out that his aunt wants Roshni to get married to her own son.
Till now, Bandhay Ek Dour Se made the right kind of noise and has us all excited. It has proven to be true that the show was worth all the hype and hoopla it had created for itself. This is because of some crackling dialogues, interesting yet relatable family dynamics, an excellent looking central and a strong supporting cast and the pace of the show. Ahsan Khan is earnest as Umar while Ushna Shah is likable as Maheen. Hina Altaf’s Roshni comes across as a self-loving girl with her own agendas. It will be interesting to see what happens in the upcoming episodes.
Bandhay Ek Dour Se airs on Thursdays on GEO TV.
