Bandhay Ek Dour Se in Review: Of Expectations and Heart Breaks

You know what they say about expectations and assumptions…

The latest episode of Bandhay Ek Dour Se showcases the dangers of expectations and assumptions. Last week, new relationships and happiness beckoned for both Roshni and Maheen. But in a short span of time, their worlds came crashing down.

The episode began with Maheen apologizing to Umar. The poor chap still has no idea what Roshni is up to. Maheen tries to explain the situation to him. But given that she is getting married, things are very chaotic. Umar is still daydreaming about his beloved Roshni and working tirelessly to ensure that Maheen’s wedding goes as per plan.

The only problem… scratch that… the ugly reality of our society rears its head, and Maheen’s in-laws put forward their dowry demands. After a long and tense exchange, they give the family 24-hours to buy them a car or else. Despite knowing the financial situation of Maheen’s family, the groom’s parents stick to their guns and insist that it was her mother’s fault for not saving enough for her daughter. Expectations of her in-laws as per societal norms will bring a stigma for Maheen and her family. Such is our society.

On the other hand, the mixed messages from Nabeel and his mom (Shagufta) continued initially. Roshni, in her mind, is the bahu of the household. She insists to her mother that it is only a matter of time. But her dreams die under the weight of her own expectations as Shagufta tells her that she will look for a good rishta for her soon in the presence of Nabeel, who seems on board with the plan.

Things really ended on a somber note. It looks like both girls have hit rock bottom. Where do they go from here? Will Roshni go back to Umar? How will Maheen react to the demands of her in-laws? Can Maheen’s family somehow fulfill their demands?

Expect the story to move at a fast pace in the next couple of episodes.
