Bangladesh Women Secure Series Win with a 20-Run Victory Over Pakistan Women

In a thrilling contest at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Bangladesh Women clinched a 20-run win over Pakistan Women, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series on Friday evening. Bangladesh Women’s stellar performance with both bat and ball secured the series win. The two teams will meet again for the third T20I at the same venue on Sunday.

After being asked to bat first, Bangladesh Women managed to post a total of 120 for six in their 20 overs. Their innings started strongly during the powerplay, accumulating 48 runs for the loss of one wicket. The bowlers made a remarkable comeback and restricted Bangladesh to only 72 runs, taking five crucial wickets in the remaining 14 overs.

The standout bowler for Pakistan was off-spinner Umm-e-Hani, who was exceptionally economical and conceded only 12 runs in her four overs. She also claimed the wicket of opening batter Murshida Khatun, who scored 20 runs from 28 deliveries. Left-arm spinners Nashra Sundhu and Sadia Iqbal also contributed by taking one wicket each, giving away 16 and 24 runs, respectively. Right-arm fast bowler Diana Baig was the most successful among the tourists, picking up two wickets for 34 runs in her four overs.

A crucial factor in Bangladesh’s innings was a quick-fire unbeaten knock by Shorna Akter, who top-scored with 27 runs from just 22 balls, including a four and a six. Her late assault provided Bangladesh Women with much-needed momentum.

Chasing 121 for victory, Pakistan Women struggled to keep up with the required run rate and finished their innings at 100 for seven in 20 overs. Experienced batter Bismah Maroof was the top-scorer for Pakistan, contributing 30 runs from 44 deliveries. Iram Javed added 15 runs, while Umm-e-Hani scored 14, but they were the only batters to reach double figures.

Bangladesh left-arm spinner Nahida Akter, who had taken a five-wicket haul in the previous game, continued her excellent form, taking two wickets for 15 runs in her four overs. Rabeya Khan also picked up two wickets, while Fahima Khatun and Marufa Akter each claimed one wicket.

Shorna Akter’s all-round performance earned her the “Player of the Match” award.

With this victory, Bangladesh Women have secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, and the third T20I, which will take place on October 29 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram, is now a matter of pride and preparation for the upcoming contests.
