Batting Brilliance Takes Center Stage in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023: Ammad Alam, Asad Shafiq and Khurram Manzoor score centuries

On the third day of the fourth round match of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, Karachi Whites’ Ammad Alam, Asad Shafiq, and Khurram Manzoor displayed their brilliance by each scoring a century. Simultaneously, at the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium in Multan, Zahid Mahmood of Multan took five wickets to dismiss FATA for 348 and successfully enforced a follow-on. Additionally, at Rawalpindi’s Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi is tantalizingly close, just 13 runs short of achieving the 203-run target set by Faisalabad, which would mark their first win of the tournament.

Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore: Karachi Whites vs. Lahore Whites

The third day of the fourth round match of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24 at the Gaddafi Stadium witnessed a display of exceptional batting prowess as Ammad Alam, Asad Shafiq, and Khurram Manzoor notched up centuries for Karachi Whites against Lahore Whites. A total of 432 runs for four wickets in 125 overs showcased Karachi Whites’ resilience in response to Lahore Whites’ first innings score of 509 for nine declared.

Opening the innings, Khurram Manzoor scored a splendid 110 runs from 248 balls, embellished with nine boundaries and two sixes. He was well-supported by Ammad Alam, who crafted a magnificent century, scoring 102 off 158 deliveries, including 11 boundaries and four sixes.

Asad Shafiq, batting at number four, continued his fine form in the tournament, adding another century to his tally with a score of 113 off 174 balls, featuring 12 boundaries. Fahad Iqbal contributed an unbeaten 60 runs off 142 balls.

Leg-spinner Saad Nasim was the standout bowler for Lahore Whites, managing to claim two wickets for 51 runs. However, Karachi Whites concluded the day at 432 for four, displaying remarkable resilience and setting the stage for an intriguing final day.

Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi: FATA vs. Multan

At the Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Multan’s Zahid Mahmood shone with the ball, bagging five crucial wickets to help enforce a follow-on against FATA. FATA managed to post 348 runs in response to Multan’s first-innings total of 529 for five declared.

Right-arm leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood displayed exceptional skill, claiming five wickets for 135 runs in 28 overs. For FATA, Akif Javed and Mohammad Sarwar scored half-centuries, contributing significantly to their team’s total.

In the follow-on, FATA concluded the day at 167 for three, still trailing by 14 runs. Salman Khan emerged as the top-scorer for FATA, accumulating 76 runs off 153 balls, including 12 boundaries.

Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi: Faisalabad vs. Rawalpindi

In a thrilling encounter at the Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi found themselves just 13 runs short of the 203-run target set by Faisalabad. Rawalpindi’s second innings began with a solid 61-run opening partnership between Abdul Faseeh and Zeeshan Malik.

Abdul Faseeh remained undefeated on 99 runs off 148 balls, featuring 15 fours, while Ashfaq Ahmed contributed an unbeaten 40 runs off 46 balls, including seven fours. The pair added an unbroken 87 runs for the third wicket.

Earlier, Faisalabad managed to score 234 runs in their second innings, with Abubakar Khan being the notable contributor, amassing 67 runs off 160 balls.

Mohammad Faizan was the standout bowler for Rawalpindi, claiming four wickets for 84 runs and finishing with match figures of nine for 119 in 34 overs.

Lahore Blues vs. Peshawar at Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Abbottabad

In a closely contested battle at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Lahore Blues found themselves leading by 123 runs with three second innings wickets remaining as the day concluded. Usman Salahuddin top-scored for Lahore Blues with 44 runs off 112 balls, featuring five fours and a six.

Earlier, Peshawar was dismissed for 360 runs in their first innings, with Sajid Khan scoring 39 runs off 62 balls and Niaz Khan contributing a valuable 33 runs off 57 deliveries.

For Lahore Blues, Kashif Bhatti was the standout bowler, securing four wickets for 59 runs, while Waqas Ahmed picked up three wickets for 87 runs.
