Bismah Maroof Fined for Dissent in Pakistan Cup Women’s Cricket Tournament

Dynamites’ Bismah Maroof has been fined 20 percent of her match fee for breaching the PCB’s Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during her team’s match against Blasters in the ongoing Pakistan Cup Women’s Cricket Tournament 2022-23. The incident occurred at the State Bank Stadium on Monday and was related to her dissent towards an umpire’s decision.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) found Bismah guilty of violating Article 2.8 of the PCB Code of Conduct, which specifically addresses the act of showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during a match. The breach occurred in the 40th over of Dynamites’ innings when Bismah expressed clear disappointment with the umpire’s LBW decision that resulted in her being given out.

The charge was imposed by the on-field umpires, Alay Hyder and Sabahat Rashid, who observed Bismah’s dissent and reported it to the match officials. Bismah, understanding her mistake, accepted the charge brought against her. Consequently, the match referee, Mohammad Anees, imposed a fine of 20 percent of her match fee.

The PCB’s Code of Conduct serves as a framework to maintain discipline and fair play within the game. It sets out clear guidelines and standards of behavior expected from players and support personnel. The board, along with the match officials, takes any breaches seriously to uphold the integrity of the sport.

Bismah Maroof, known for her skills and contributions to women’s cricket, acknowledged her error and accepted the consequences of her actions.
