Centuries Dominate Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Matches on Day Two

On the second day of the sixth round of the Quaid e Azam Trophy 2023-24, four Multan batters shone brightly, notching up centuries against Lahore Blues at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore. Meanwhile, at Pindi Stadium, Faisalabad’s Ali Waqas produced an unbeaten century, providing his team with a comfortable position against Peshawar. In another encounter at Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium, Jamal Anwar’s half-century proved pivotal in Rawalpindi’s resurgence against Karachi Whites, following their previous-day struggles. Over at Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Tayyab Tahir’s century helped Lahore Whites establish a commanding lead over FATA.

Lahore Blues vs. Multan (Gaddafi Stadium Lahore)

On the second day of the sixth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24, batters continued to dominate the proceedings. Multan’s innings at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore was the highlight of the day. They resumed from their overnight score of 315 for three and went on a run-fest. Sharoon Siraj (114, 136 balls, 14x4s, 1×6), Mohammad Basit (105, 188 balls, 8x4s, 1×6), and Saim Ayaz (117, 138 balls, 13x4s, 3x6s) kept the scoreboard ticking with their aggressive batting. Multan reached a colossal total of 718 for eight in 178 overs. Ali Usman remained unbeaten at 105 (155 balls, 9x4s, 1×6).

The Lahore Blues bowlers had a tough time, with Qasim Akram managing to get three wickets, while Hunain Shah and Kashif Bhatti secured two each.

Faisalabad vs. Peshawar (Pindi Stadium Rawalpindi)

In a match at Pindi Stadium, Faisalabad consolidated their position against Peshawar after a solid start. Ali Waqas played a crucial innings, remaining unbeaten at 105 (236 balls, 12x4s, 1×6). He found support in Ali Shan, who contributed 55 runs from 119 balls with four boundaries and one six. Faisalabad reached 236 for the loss of six wickets in 88 overs, building a strong foundation for the innings.

Peshawar bowlers worked hard to make breakthroughs, with Mohammad Ilyas, Sajid Khan, and Abbas Afridi each taking three wickets.

Karachi Whites vs. Rawalpindi (Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium Rawalpindi)

At Shoaib Akhtar Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi, the match between Rawalpindi and Karachi Whites took an interesting turn. Rawalpindi resumed their innings from 114 for five and managed to put 243 runs on the board before getting bowled out in 84.3 overs. Jamal Anwar was the star of the innings, contributing a crucial 89 runs from 199 balls. His innings helped Rawalpindi recover from a shaky start on the previous day. Left-arm pacer Mir Hamza took four wickets, and spinner Noman Ali grabbed three for Karachi Whites.

In reply, Karachi Whites posted 134 for the loss of two wickets in 32.4 overs. Shan Masood was the top-scorer, remaining unbeaten at 66 (72 balls, 7x4s), and he was well-supported by Ammad Alam, who contributed 45 not out from 94 balls with five boundaries and a six.

Lahore Whites vs. FATA (Abbottabad Cricket Stadium)

In the match at Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Lahore Whites continued their dominance after bowling out FATA for just 97 runs on the first day. Lahore Whites resumed their innings from 66 for one and piled up 399 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 96.2 overs. Tayyab Tahir was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 102 runs from 184 balls, including 11 boundaries and 3 sixes. Umar Akmal contributed 66 runs (71 balls, 6x4s, 3x6s), and Imran Dogar added 50 runs (88 balls).

Asif Afridi was the standout bowler for FATA, securing a five-wicket haul, while Sameen Gul took two wickets.
