Churails’ puts Feminist Heroes at the Forefront, and they put on a great show!

Churails –the new Zindagi original web series that has been airing on ZEE5 is one of the most different and unique content to have come out of Pakistan in the past few decades.

This Asim Abbasi’s web show is what many refer to as the quintessential female-driven story where they find liberty and freedom by drinking, abusing, and mistreating ‘poor’ men. But it’s more than that. It’s about how the anger that stems from the misogyny and senseless rules of patriarchy that’s deep-rooted in our society. It’s about women taking control of their lives because men have destroyed it and then choose to play the victims instead.

Starring the talented Sarwat Gilani as Sara, Yasra Rizvi as Jugnu, Nimra Bucha as Batool, and Mehar Bano as Zubaida – the 10 part series is honest, real, heartfelt, and sincerely personal. It has ample dark humor, moments of genuine discomfort and uneasiness, and a ton of ‘oh-my-god’ moments.

The dialogue is crisp, the cinematography is gritty and lavish simultaneously, and the performances are nothing short of outstanding. Every episode in the series is better than the last one and keeps you hooked and invested in the lives of our Churails till the very end.

Apart from the thriller’s mystery, it brings a much needed social message to the people as it tackles issues like rape, harassment, molestation, infidelity, and the stereotypes against minorities and women. ‘Churails’ on the surface seems like a thriller crime, but with its brilliant narrative, it has a lot more to offer than that. Zindagi’s platform, provided them with the space to explore, expand, and be creative without any boundaries.

The OTT platform was a plus for a story like ‘Churails’, which would’ve never worked on television or film (something you can only understand after watching it).
