College life is one of the most exciting phases of life, especially for extroverts who have networking with friends. Making groups to prepare for exams, enjoying food in the canteen and at times bunking classes too are some of the unforgettable memories of life. Green Entertainment’s brand new drama serial College Gate showcases the life of students who take the road less traveled. Intending to discover their talent and dreams, they face pressures of their family and society.
College Gate is directed by Faheem Burney, and written by Ateeq Inayat and Ali Sikandar. The drama serial features fresh and young actors like Zarrar Khan, Natalia Castillo Shahid, Khaqan Shahnawaz, Hina Chaudhry, Mamia Shajaffar, Shuja Asad, Washma Fatima, Nouman Kahout, and Asad Chaudhry.
The premise introduces us to a group of students who are ready to begin the journey of college life. Wahaj Qureshi (Zarrar Khan) is an aspiring singer but his family wants him to focus on his studies. Annie (Mamia Shajaffar) hails from a rich family and already works for an NGO. Usman Jutt (Khaqan Shahnawaz) wants to modernize his family business of dairy farming. Sam (Hina Chaudhry) is a responsible individual who along with her studies assists his father in their food business. They have a rollercoaster ride on the first day of college, they get ragged by seniors, and they support each other not just in studies but in achieving personal goals as well.
The biggest USP of College Gate is its unique story. We don’t get to see such genres explored on TV. The drama is a roller coaster of emotions, it makes us laugh, entertains through interesting comments and dialogues and beautifully captures the sentiments of students. It highlights the ups and downs of college life, as well as, how to handle and solve difficult situations. Faheem Burney deserves praise for merging all the tracks very well. He utilizes his time to introduce the characters and the college settings.
The performances so far are exemplary. The relatively new actors deliver a nuanced performance in their capacity. Everyone gets a chance to shine. Khaqan Shahnawaz is quite entertaining. The production design is good, the college scenes are well-captured. All said and done, College Gate takes a decent start that promises entertainment wrapped around a gamut of emotions. It will attract its target audience i.e. the youth.
