Complex Characters & Strong Storyline – Muqaddar is keeping us Hooked till the very End

Sardar Saif’s fluctuating moods and multifaceted personality, Raima’s innocence and patience, Haris’s anger and pain, Rakshanda begum’s false sense of honour and scheming, Saad’s humble attitude and acceptance, Abeera’s need for love and affection; Muqaddar has been a drama that has given us so many rich and strong characters. As this 7th Sky Entertainment production is coming to an end, we look at what has made this drama such a success and has kept us hooked till its climax.

You can’t help but start with Sardar Saif. Credit to the writer, the director, and Faysal Quraishi for creating a grey character. Initially, Sardar Saif looked like a typical feudal lord. However, as the story went along, we saw another side to his nature—a looking husband who gained sympathy from the audience who hated him for so long. But the end he got, perhaps a deserving one. That was his Muqaddar.

Raima’s character arc was certainly also interesting. Madiha Imam has certainly evolved as an actress to play these complex characters. The way she transitions from her abduction to being the wife of Sardar Saif seemed convincing. Even though it really was a hard and jarring decision being forced upon her. It was her Muqaddar to live a rather unhappy life to some degree.

The supporting cast also had fully evolved characters. For example, Haris’s pain reflects all the choices he makes in his life. Even though life forces him to move on, he is still stuck in his past. Again, his Muqaddar was to stagnate in life. For Rakshanda Begum, it was her Muqaddar to become a victim of her own scheming.

Producers Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi have once again outdone themselves with a brilliant drama. With the last episode to air next week, everything is nicely poised for every character to reach the end of their journeys. We might be in for an odd surprise. However, thus far, as we feel, these characters are all meeting the fate they were destined to. Cruel, it may be, but that is their Muqaddar.
