The beauty of the story Deewangi is that it shows two contrasting facets of life. On the one hand, there is Sultan (Danish Taimoor). On the surface, he seems to have everything; money, a concerned family, and a beautiful wife (Zoya Nasir). Yet he is deeply unhappy with life. On the flip side is Nageen (Hiba Bukhari). Despite her efforts, she has little money, and family support is non-existent. She is taking on the challenges of life alone and struggling.
Episode 17 took this narrative further forward. Sultan is deeply frustrated by always missing Nageen. So much so that he is unable to concentrate on work. He snaps at Narmeen (Zoya Nasir) at every opportunity and is unwilling to change his behavior. Narmeen tries to help him open up, but her patience runs out, and she has a go at Sultan as well. When she asks for a World Tour for the summers, Sultan is enraged. She sticks to guns, and that leads to Sultan asking her to go back to her father’s home.
A world away, Nageen is fighting her own battles. She is settling in her job. However, seeing pictures of Sultan’s marriage in a magazine takes her back to a bad place. While Haroon (Ali Abbas) is clearly smitten by her, despite being repeatedly told to stay away, he takes his chances and plans a lavish dinner celebration on her birthday. Due to a transport strike, he succeeds (lucky break, eh). However, they get late, and Nageen’s phupo is infuriated. She kicks Nageen out, and with no other place to go, Haroon again requests her to stay at his home.
And oh side note, he also proposes her during the drive. Tantalizingly, we don’t get to see how and what she responds with. Nonetheless, Haroon, in the face of hostile protests from her mother, again declares his love for Nageen. His mother clearly is shocked at this development.
It remains to be seen what fate has in store for all the four leading characters. On the face of it, things might be unraveling for Sultan and Narmeen, while maybe, just maybe Nageen and Haroon might find comfort in each other’s arms.
Fascinating times ahead.
