Empowering Players is Key to Get Best Performance: Mohammad Wasim

In a candid reflection on the team’s journey so far in the Women’s Asia Cup T20, Pakistan Women’s cricket coach Mohammad Wasim emphasized the importance of empowering players to unleash their full potential.

Initial Struggles and Improvement: Reflecting on the first match, Wasim acknowledged the challenges faced by the team. “We struggled in the first match because we couldn’t execute our plans effectively,” he said. However, he was quick to highlight the subsequent improvement in the team’s performance. “The team’s performance has improved since the first match. We are heading in the right direction,” Wasim stated.

Mindset and Strategy: Wasim stressed the need to maintain the same mindset in upcoming matches against stronger sides. “We need to play with the same mindset against good sides in the upcoming matches,” he said.

Empowering Players: Highlighting the core of his coaching philosophy, Wasim underscored the importance of granting players the freedom to express their talent. “If we want to get the best performance from these girls, we need to give them the freedom to showcase their talent,” he said.

Strengths and Improvements: Wasim pointed out that bowling remains the team’s strong suit while acknowledging the visible improvements in batting and fielding. “Bowling is our strong area, and we are seeing improvements in fielding and batting as well,” he noted.

Modern Cricket and Coaching: Stressing the need for a modern approach, Wasim remarked, “If you want to play modern cricket, you need modern coaching.”

Efforts Paying Off: He expressed satisfaction with the hard work put in during the training camp, noting its positive impact. “The hard work we did in the camp is now paying off,” he said.

Aggressive Batting: Wasim also highlighted the desire for more aggressive batting from the players. “We want our girls to bat more aggressively,” he stated.

Conditions and Bowling: Recognizing the favorable conditions for spinners, Wasim praised the young bowlers’ performances. “The conditions favor spinners, and our young bowlers have bowled excellently,” he said.

New Addition: He particularly mentioned the positive impact of the addition of left-arm seamer Tasmia to the bowling lineup. “Left-arm seamer Tasmia is a good addition to our bowling,” he said.

Asia Cup Ambitions: Concluding on a high note, Wasim reiterated the team’s ambition. “We came here with the mindset of winning the Asia Cup this time,” he declared.
