In a watershed moment for Pakistan women’s cricket, the team secured a monumental seven-wicket triumph over New Zealand women, marking their first-ever T20I victory against the formidable White Ferns. This historic win unfolded in the first T20I clash at the University of Otago Oval in Dunedin, showcasing a remarkable performance by the touring side.

Opting to chase a target of 128 runs, Pakistan’s opening pair, led by Shawaal Zulfiqar and Muneeba Ali, initiated a solid start with a 40-run partnership. Muneeba, contributing 23 runs off 24 balls, laid a strong foundation before her departure. Skipper Nida Dar stepped up the batting order, forging a vital 51-run stand alongside Shawaal, who showcased her mettle with a resilient 41 off 42 balls, peppering her innings with seven boundaries.

Despite Shawaal and Nida’s dismissals, the experienced duo of Bismah Maroof and Aliya Riaz steered the team to a resounding victory with 10 balls to spare. Aliya’s unbeaten 25 off 12 deliveries, including two fours and a match-sealing six, epitomized Pakistan’s grit and determination. Bismah remained steady at 13 not out off 18 balls, contributing crucially to the team’s win.

Fatima Sana’s remarkable return from injury was highlighted by a stellar spell, claiming three wickets while conceding only 18 runs. Supported by Nida, Diana Baig, and Aliya, the Pakistani bowlers successfully curtailed New Zealand’s innings. Maddy Green’s unbeaten 44 off 28 balls was the top score for the White Ferns.

With this historic win, Pakistan aims to carry forward their momentum in the upcoming second T20I against New Zealand at the same venue on Tuesday, 5th December, with the series displaying thrilling cricket action between the two competitive sides.
