Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt named as consulting head coach of Singapore

The Singapore Cricket Association (SCA) has appointed former Pakistan captain Salman Butt as a consultant head coach for the national team for the 2022 season.

Local support personnel will aid Butt, including former Pakistan women’s team trainer Jamal Hussain, who will join the squad as a fielding coach and trainer.

Singapore, an ICC associate nation since 1974, will compete in three major tournaments over the next five months in the hopes of earning a spot in one of the ICC’s marquee events.

According to Espncricinfo, SCA chief executive officer Saad Janjua said that the former batter will be residing in Singapore and will travel with the team as head coach under a consultant contract.

During Butt’s tenure, Singapore will participate in ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe in July, Asia Cup Qualifiers in Sri Lanka in August, and the ICC Men’s Challenge League A in Canada.
