Four Former Test Cricketers Named in Seven-Member Men’s Selection Committee

Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has announced the formation of the men’s selection committee during a press conference held at the headquarters of Pakistan Cricket, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

The newly formed selection committee comprises seven members, including former Test players Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, and Asad Shafiq. Additionally, the captain and coach of the respective national men’s team will also be part of the committee. The seventh member will be a data analyst responsible for providing statistical insights to aid in the selection process.

Wahab Riaz, who previously served as the chairman of the selection committee, brings his vast experience from playing 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is for Pakistan. Mohammad Yousuf, a distinguished cricketer, has represented Pakistan in 90 Tests, 288 ODIs, and three T20Is, and has previously led the Pakistan Men’s U19 team as head coach.

Asad Shafiq, who recently retired from competitive cricket, boasts an impressive international career spanning 77 Tests, 60 ODIs, and 10 T20Is. Abdul Razzaq, known for his dynamic all-round abilities, has featured in 46 Tests, 265 ODIs, and 32 T20Is for Pakistan.

In a notable departure from previous structures, the selection committee will operate without a chairman, with each member holding equal power. The committee will oversee the selection process for the national men’s teams across all formats of international cricket. Additionally, they will be responsible for selecting the U19 and A teams.

Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi expressed his confidence in the newly constituted selection committee, highlighting their wealth of experience and professionalism. He emphasized that the committee would operate independently, without any interference, and expressed optimism about their dedication and integrity in fulfilling their duties.

The formation of the seven-member selection committee marks a significant step in Pakistan cricket’s evolution, ensuring a more collaborative and inclusive approach to team selection across all levels of the game.
