From Empowering to Dumb: The Evolution of Female Characters in Pakistani Dramas

Once known for their socially relevant themes and strong female characters, Pakistani dramas are now turning out to be a disappointment for their viewers. With a focus on attracting TRPs and generating revenue, drama makers seem to have run out of ideas and are resorting to dumb female characters to appeal to their audiences. This trend is worrying, as it is setting negative standards for young girls and promoting mindless fantasies.

Let’s take a look at some of the dumb female characters that are currently gracing our screens:

Maheer from Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha

Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha' fans are sad for Saad

Hania Aamir’s character, Maheer, in Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha, takes the cake for being one of the dumbest female characters in Pakistani dramas. She is selfish, irritating, and a betrayer. Throughout the drama, Maheer neglects the true love of Saad, who loves her unconditionally and goes to jail because of her. Instead, she only cares about her own feelings for Areeb, who is lying in the hospital. Maheer’s character is setting a terrible example for young girls, who may be influenced to prioritize their own selfish desires over true love and loyalty.

Safiya Beghum in Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha

Safiya Beghum, Maheer’s mother in Mujhe Pyaar Hua Tha, is another example of a dumb female character. She is materialistic and prefers Areeb over Saad solely because of his wealth. Her character promotes the worst kind of standards for mothers and fails to recognize the value of true love and character.

Meerab from Tere Bin

Meerab from Tere Bin is supposed to be a strong, empowered woman, but her character ends up being just the opposite. She is stubborn, mindless, and makes terrible decisions at every turn. Despite the show’s intentions to depict women empowerment, Meerab’s character is more of a reflection of women’s vulnerability. She is portrayed as the exact opposite of what she is supposed to be, and her actions are setting negative examples for young women.

Haya from Tere Bin

Haya, the character in Tere Bin who is currently the most hated by viewers, is a classic example of a dumb female character. Her sole purpose in life is love, and she is not above resorting to black magic to get what she wants. Haya’s selfishness and lack of gratitude towards the family who has taken her in is a terrible example for young viewers, and her enmity towards Meerab only makes things worse.

These are just a few examples of the sorry state of Pakistani dramas. Drama makers need to take a step back and focus on creating meaningful content that can educate and inspire viewers. By promoting mindless fantasies and negative stereotypes, they are doing a disservice to their audiences and setting terrible examples for young girls. It’s time for a change, and it starts with better content.
