On Friday (8th March 2019) the Global Neighbourhood for Media Innovation (GNMI) celebrated International Women’s Day by highlighting the challenges, opportunities and success stories of our women in Pakistan.
A number of stakeholders from various walks of life attended the event and voiced their views. Many media and civil society personalities attended the meeting, Senior Politician Mr. Taj Haider, fashion model & TV personalities Ms. Nadia Hussain, Sindh Local Government Minister Mr. Saeed Ghani, Commissioner Karachi Mr. Iftekhar Shalwani, Women Activist Ms. Uzma Alkarim, Senior Journalist Ms. Maria Memon, SSP Sindh Police Ms. Sohai Aziz, Educationist Dr. Mohammad Ali Shaikh, Senior Journalist Masood Raza, Senior Journalist Ms. Quratulain Iqrar, MPA Sindh Assembly Ms. Nusrat Sahar Abbasi and Mr. Jason Green Public affairs office, at US Consulate Karachi to name a few.
During the event in Karachi, GNMI formally announced the launch of its new project “Lab Kushai”.
Speaking at the event founder and president GNMI, Ms. Najia Ashar said:
“I believe this is the right time to launch GNMI’s new project “Lab Kushai” (to speak out and express your opinion) on women day.It is the establishment of an innovative forum for resource sharing and an open dialogue on the gender sensitive reporting, challenges and opportunities.”
All the speakers stressed and voiced on women dignity and rights by discussing life examples and working models to make this idea #BalanceForBetter workable.
Over 50 celebrities and civil society members gathered to raise awareness against gender inequality and to celebrate the women’s achievements.
GNMI made the day memorable for many women by giving token of appreciation for their hard work and efforts. Mr. Saeed Ghani said:
“We need to celebrate this day not only for the sake of only elite and blessed women but for those who are deprived yet they are struggling to make their families’ life better.”
The helping hand network of Pak-US Alumni Network (PUAN) Karachi also had their representation at the event. Mr. Jason Green represented US Counsel General appreciated the efforts done by women in Pakistan and acknowledged GNMI idea; to highlight unspoken social issues in Pakistan.
