In a dominant display, Haseebullah’s unbeaten century propelled Pakistan Shaheens to a commanding position on the second day of the second four-day match against Zimbabwe A at Mutare Sports Club in Mutare.
Resuming their first innings at an overnight score of 115 for one in response to Zimbabwe A’s total of 163 all out, Pakistan Shaheens continued to pile on the runs. Mohammad Huraira and Omair Bin Yousuf, who were at the crease, added just 12 runs to their partnership before Huraira (64) was dismissed, becoming the first wicket to fall on the day. Kamran Ghulam (2) followed suit, and the Shaheens found themselves at 133 for three.
Omair, accompanied by vice-captain Hussain Talat, steadied the innings with a solid partnership of 84 runs for the fourth wicket. Omair completed his half-century but was eventually bowled by Roy Kaia for a well-compiled 65 off 96 deliveries, including six boundaries and a six. Qasim Akram, playing his first match of the tour, joined Hussain, and the pair added 66 runs for the fifth wicket. However, both batsmen fell in quick succession to Victor Nyauchi, leaving the Shaheens at 293 for six.
With the lead at just 130 runs, Haseebullah and Aamir Jamal came together and formed a crucial seventh-wicket partnership of 83 runs. Aamir contributed 35 runs before his dismissal, and Mehran Mumtaz joined Haseebullah, adding another 36 runs to the total. After Mehran’s departure, Mohammad Ali partnered with Haseebullah to forge an unbroken 49-run stand for the ninth wicket.
During the course of his innings, Haseebullah, a 20-year-old left-handed batsman, showcased his skills and composure, reaching his second first-class century in just his 11th match. He remained unbeaten on 111 off 197 deliveries, smashing 14 fours and a six. Ali remained not out on eight.
Zimbabwe A’s Tanaka Chivanga and Victor Nyauchi were the most successful bowlers, picking up three wickets each.
At the close of play, Pakistan Shaheens were in a commanding position at 461 for eight in 112 overs, boasting a substantial lead of 298 runs.
The match continues with Pakistan Shaheens firmly in control, looking to extend their lead and put Zimbabwe A under immense pressure.
