The fourth episode of ‘Pehli Si Mohabbat’ aired last weekend and man oh man were we thrilled to see how the story unfolded. However, seeing HSY in character as Akram has piqued our curiosity further into the progression of the show. As the episodes aired, we got to see multiple dimensions of his character and how he plays a key role in the production. HSY’s acting is clearly phenomenal as we knew a prime moment was around the corner every time he was on screen. Although Akram seems powerful and ruthless at the start, would we assume that he is the main antagonist in the show? It’s debatable. All we know is that we wouldn’t want to get on his bad side.
Throughout the series, Akram seems to be quite convinced that he is well within his rights to object to Faizullah’s marriage but are these opinions his own or someone else’s? From what we’ve observed, he is also easily influenced by his peers who wanted to uphold the neighborhood’s reputation through the guise of conservatism and religious beliefs. Thus far, Akram seems to be set in his ways and sees the world from a dualistic standpoint only, all the while trying to dissuade his family from fraternizing with Faizullah. We also know from Akram’s interactions with others that once he believes in something he doesn’t back down. HSY has clearly put a lot of thought into his character and it shows. He has added so many layers to the role that there are multiple ways viewers can interpret Akram whether it be through his expressions or powerful dialogue.
So far, audiences can see Akram primarily through the lens of others and how he relates to those around him but we still wonder what makes Akram who he is. Needless to say, HSY does the role justice by expressing his character with such gripping intensity. Will Akram remain headstrong about his beliefs? Will he be a part of more conflicts in the neighbourhood? We’ll just have to wait and see next Saturday at 8pm!
