ICC Chair Greg Barclay and Chief Executive Geoff Allardice concluded their visit to the Pakistan cricket headquarters in Lahore after a two-day tour. This marked Barclay’s first visit to Pakistan since assuming the role.
During their visit, the ICC officials held meetings with PCB Management Committee Chair Najam Sethi and other PCB officials to discuss various aspects of cricket, including promotion, growth, and development. The discussions focused on mutual interests and the unique cricketing landscape of Pakistan. Alongside the meetings, Barclay and Allardice also had the opportunity to explore Lahore’s cricket facilities and cultural landmarks, including the National Cricket Academy, Lahore Fort, Lahore Museum, Safe City Project, and Minar-e-Pakistan.
Expressing his thoughts on the visit, Greg Barclay stated, “It has been great to be here. My approach has been to visit all the Member countries and see how cricket and cricket administration operate in their respective jurisdictions. The cricket facilities in Pakistan and the cricket programs are great, and now that international cricket has returned to Pakistan and the PCB is successfully hosting bilateral arrangements at home, I believe we’ll witness Pakistan cricket reach new heights for both men and women, leading to positive commercial outcomes.”
Barclay also praised the progress of women’s cricket in Pakistan and expressed optimism about its future, saying, “I think the future for Pakistan in terms of female participation and international successes is going to be huge in terms of potential.”
Acknowledging the ICC’s global strategy to grow the game of cricket, Barclay emphasized the importance of understanding the role of the PCB in this context. He expressed his satisfaction with what he had witnessed during his visit and commended the efforts made by the PCB.
Najam Sethi, who is also an ICC Director, expressed his gratitude to Barclay and Allardice for their visit, highlighting the significance of the exchange of ideas and perspectives on the global cricket ecosystem. Sethi emphasized the PCB’s commitment to working closely with the ICC in developing strategies and plans that benefit all member countries and contribute to the growth and development of the game.
The visit of the ICC officials to Pakistan showcased the ongoing collaboration between the ICC and PCB and their shared dedication to advancing cricket on a global scale.
