ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Finalists, England and Pakistan, Set to Clash in Pre-Tournament Series

In an exciting build-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, the finalists of the 2022 edition, England and Pakistan, are set to face off in a thrilling series in the United Kingdom. World champions England will host Pakistan in a four-match T20I series from 22-30 May 2024, providing a tantalizing preview of what’s to come in the upcoming tournament. The matches will be played at iconic venues, including Leeds, Birmingham, Cardiff, and The Oval in London.

In the previous T20 World Cup final held in Melbourne, England emerged victorious by defeating Pakistan with five wickets and one over to spare. However, it was a closely fought battle, showcasing the exceptional skills and competitiveness of both teams. Prior to the tournament in Australia, Pakistan had hosted England for a seven-match T20I series in Karachi and Lahore, with the visitors emerging victorious with a 4-3 scoreline.

England currently holds the second position on the ICC T20I Team Rankings, while Pakistan is ranked fourth, trailing by five points. The upcoming series will provide both teams with an opportunity to strengthen their positions and fine-tune their strategies ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA).

Before their arrival in the UK, Pakistan will engage in a three-match T20I series against the Netherlands and a two-match T20I series against Ireland. Details of these matches will be announced at a later date, creating a busy schedule for the Pakistani team as they prepare for the high-profile clash against England.

In addition to the men’s side, the Pakistan women’s squad will also tour England in May 2024. They are scheduled to play three T20Is and three ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 fixtures against the England women’s team. The tour will commence with the first T20I at Edgbaston in Birmingham on 11 May, followed by matches in Northampton and Leeds. The women’s series will be followed by three ODIs to be played in Derby, Taunton, and Chelmsford on 23, 26, and 29 May, respectively.

The England women’s team currently holds the second position in the ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings, while Pakistan occupies the seventh spot. However, in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25, Pakistan is placed third with 10 points, while England is ranked seventh with six points, having played one less series of three ODIs. England’s next series in the championship will be against Australia from 12-18 July.

The series against England will mark the conclusion of Pakistan women’s participation in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25. The team will kick-start their 2023-24 season by hosting South Africa in Karachi from 1-14 September, followed by series against Bangladesh (October/November, away), New Zealand (November/December, away), and West Indies (April/May, home).

In the three ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 series played so far, Pakistan has secured victories against Sri Lanka (2-1) and Ireland (3-0), while experiencing a 3-0 defeat at the hands of world champions Australia earlier this year.

Cricket enthusiasts around the world are eagerly looking forward to the thrilling clash between England and Pakistan, both in the men’s and women’s series, as the teams gear up for another exhilarating edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024.
