ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025: Teams Gear Up as Qualifier Starts in Lahore

With just a few months remaining until the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, the final two spots for the tournament will be decided in Pakistan, where six teams will battle it out in the Qualifier starting on 9 April.

Confirmed Teams Ready for India 2025

Hosts India, alongside defending champions Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka, have already secured their places in the 13th edition of the tournament.

Australia, the dominant force in women’s ODI cricket, topped the ICC Women’s Championship (IWC) 2022-25 with 18 wins from 21 matches, earning automatic qualification. India finished second, while England took third.

New Zealand, the only other team besides Australia and England to have won the World Cup (in 2000), qualified as one of the top five teams in the IWC. Meanwhile, South Africa—three-time semi-finalists—will be eager to claim their maiden title after near-misses in recent T20 World Cups.

The Race for the Final Two Spots

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Qualifier in Lahore will determine the last two participants. The tournament features:

  • Full Members: Bangladesh, Ireland, Pakistan, West Indies
  • Associate Members: Scotland, Thailand

Bangladesh, who made their World Cup debut in 2022, will aim for an immediate return after missing direct qualification. The West Indies and Pakistan, both 2022 participants, also face a must-win campaign to avoid missing out.

Ireland, bottom of the IWC, are chasing their first World Cup appearance in 20 years, while Scotland and Thailand seek historic debuts in an ODI World Cup.

Qualifier Format and Fixtures

The round-robin tournament will be held at Gaddafi Stadium and Lahore City Cricket Association Ground, with the top two teams advancing. Key opening matches include:

  • 9 April: Pakistan vs Ireland
  • 9 April: Scotland vs West Indies

With only two spots up for grabs, the competition promises high stakes as teams fight to join the world’s best in India later this year.

Looking Ahead

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 will showcase the finest talent in women’s ODI cricket, with India hoping to lift their first title. But first, the drama in Lahore will decide which two teams complete the lineup.

Cricket fans worldwide can follow the action live as the road to India reaches its thrilling conclusion.
