India Women Secure Six-Wicket Victory Over Pakistan in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024

In the seventh fixture of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, India women’s cricket team registered their first win of the tournament, defeating Pakistan women by six wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS). Pakistan suffered their first loss in the ongoing competition, while India successfully chased down a modest target of 106 runs with 7 balls to spare.

India’s chase was anchored by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who played a steady knock of 29 runs off 24 balls, including a boundary. Shafali Verma was the top scorer for India, contributing 32 runs off 35 balls, which included three fours. Jemimah Rodrigues also added valuable runs, scoring 23 off 28 balls.

Fatima Sana, Pakistan’s captain, led from the front with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 23 runs in her four overs. Omaima Sohail and Sadia Iqbal each claimed one wicket, but their efforts weren’t enough to prevent India from reaching the target in 18.5 overs.

Earlier, Pakistan struggled to post a competitive total after opting to bat first, finishing with 105-8 in their allotted 20 overs. Former captain Nida Dar top-scored with 28 runs off 34 balls, while Muneeba Ali contributed 17 off 26 balls. The most notable partnership came towards the end, with Nida and Syeda Aroob Shah (14* off 17 balls) adding 28 runs for the eighth wicket, helping Pakistan surpass the 100-run mark.

For India, Arundhati Reddy was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 19 runs in her four overs, and she was later awarded the Player of the Match. Shreyanka Patil also bowled impressively, picking up 2 wickets for 12 runs.
