In a significant development in Pakistani cricket, Inzamam-Ul-Haq, the former Pakistan cricket legend and current chairman of the national men’s selection committee, has tendered his resignation from both the national men’s selection committee and junior selection committee roles. This decision comes as a response to the conflict of interest allegations raised in the media.
Inzamam-Ul-Haq, who was appointed as the chairman of the national men’s selection committee on August 7, 2023, and later assigned the position of chairman of the junior men’s selection committee earlier this month, cited his willingness to ensure transparency and integrity in the selection process as the main reason behind his resignation.
In his statement, Inzamam-Ul-Haq declared, “I am stepping down from the post to offer the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) the opportunity to conduct a transparent inquiry about the conflict of interest allegations raised in the media. If the committee finds me not guilty, I will resume my role as the chief selector.”
The PCB has expressed appreciation and acknowledgment of Inzamam-Ul-Haq’s voluntary decision to step down during the ongoing investigation, affirming the commitment to uphold the highest standards of fairness and impartiality in the selection of players for the national and junior teams.
Furthermore, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken immediate steps to address the situation. They have established a five-member fact-finding committee, tasked with conducting a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations of conflict of interest reported in the media concerning the team selection process.
The committee is expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations and swiftly submit its findings and any recommendations to the PCB Management. The objective is to ensure that the selection process remains transparent, unbiased, and in accordance with the principles of integrity and fairness that are integral to cricket in Pakistan.
This development marks a crucial step towards maintaining the integrity of Pakistan’s cricketing system and reiterates the commitment of all stakeholders to uphold the highest standards in the sport. The cricketing community and fans alike are watching closely as this investigation unfolds, eager to see a just and transparent resolution.
