Jaker Ali and Saif Hasan delivered standout performances with the bat, impressing Bangladesh cricket selectors with their centuries on the third day of the rain-hit second four-day match against Pakistan Shaheens at the Islamabad Club on Thursday.
Despite the first two days being washed out due to rain and a wet outfield, the two batters made the most of the extended day’s play. Bangladesh ‘A’ ended the day at 346 for six in 98 overs, thanks to Jaker’s unbeaten 136 and Saif’s resilient 111.
The duo came together when Bangladesh ‘A’ was struggling at 77 for four, adding a crucial 131 runs for the fifth wicket. Saif’s innings, featuring 13 fours and four sixes, was brought to an end by Mehran Mumtaz after he faced 221 balls. Jaker, however, remained solid, anchoring the innings with his 244-ball 136, which included 14 fours and four sixes.
Mehran Mumtaz was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan Shaheens, taking two wickets, including the dismissal of Shahadat Hossain (23) earlier in the day. Ghulam Mudassir also contributed by removing both openers, Anamul Haque (7) and Mohammad Naim (9), leaving Bangladesh ‘A’ in early trouble.
The final day’s play is set to resume on Friday at 9:45 AM, with Jaker Ali looking to extend Bangladesh ‘A’s advantage.
Scores in Brief (Day 3 of 4): Bangladesh ‘A’ (1st innings): 346-6, 98 overs (Jaker Ali 136 not out, Saif Hasan 111; Ghulam Mudassir 2-59, Mehran Mumtaz 2-69) vs Pakistan Shaheens
