The newly launched Green Entertainment channel has roped in the best names in the entertainment industry to produce meaningful and thought-provoking content. Director Kashif Nisar has a reputation for bringing something new to the table every time. His previous endeavors have not just shed light on sensitive topics but have also opened avenues for progressive storytelling. Nisar’s outing for Green Entertainment’s ‘Jeevan Nagar’ is an intriguing tale of an unconventional town. The play is written by Awais Ahmed and features Sohail Ahmed and Rabia Butt in leading roles. It is supported by Noor Hassan, Kashif Ahmed, Khalid Butt and Saqib Sumeer.
What’s Jeevan Nagar About?
Jeevan Nagar is an old locality that was made many decades ago. With time new and upgraded localities got constructed, but Jeevan Nagar remained unchanged. Viewers are introduced to Babbar Shah (Sohail Ahmed) an angel for the people of the town. It is chaand raat, people are busy in prepping for Eid. Shah has a routine of feeding food and makes sure that no one is left hungry.
The people are categorized with a social class division and some are going through an identity crisis. We see women as homemakers and obedient daughters. Men are mostly shown flirting with the opposite gender. Enter Sitara (Rabia Butt) who shifts in Jeevan Nagar and plans to open a gym. There’s also a business tycoon who has plans (we assume) to harm Jeevan Nagar. He hires Babbar Shah’s biggest enemy Javed Plastar to stand against him.
Babbar Shah has a past that no one knows. Every day from 11 P.M. till morning he locks himself into his room. There are many stories popular regarding this but no one knows the reality. The last moments of episode 1 unveil Babbar Shah in the avatar of a Khawaja Sara.
What We Liked
Jeevan Nagar sets the right tone for an intriguing watch. Kashif Nisar establishes the plot well. There’s an element of mystery in most of the scenes that excite viewers to know more about the character dynamics. The dialogues by Awais Ahmed are witty, sharp and in some places funny. The drama is shot and edited very well. The slo-mo and the flashbacks help in taking the narrative forward. As for the performances, the first episode was ruled by Sohail Ahmed. He delivers an effortless performance and is completely in sync with his character. Rabia Butt is a breath of fresh air. There’s a scene where she makes eye contact with Shah making the viewer’s wonder if she has arrived in the town with a purpose. Full marks to the production design for showcasing the small town with authenticity.
Verdict So Far
Jeevan Nagar works big time due to the stupendous act of the protagonist. The drama is laced with several emotional and dramatic sequences. All in all Jeevan Nagar has the right ingredients in correct proportion to enthrall viewers in the upcoming episodes.
