Journalists learnt about establishing startups and running entrepreneurial ventures from experts in the field at the second day of the Pakistan Entrepreneurial Journalism Program, happening here in Karachi.
The program, aimed at helping journalists set up their own news startups, is connecting participants with digital media and entrepreneurship experts.
On the second day of the training, Ms. Marjan Arbab, an academic turned entrepreneur working with National Incubation Centre, Karachi and Mohammad Mustafa Ahmedzai, digital media specialist and web developer, worked with participants to help them understand digital media marketing, entrepreneurship and building news startups.
The trainers talked about the importance of creating and building a brand identity and discussed ways of marketing content on digital media.
“Journalists must pick up these new trends as soon as possible. This is the best time to enter this field, it’s absolutely vital for them so they don’t have to rely on organizations for their careers,” said Mustafa Ahmedzai.
The Pakistan Entrepreneurship Journalism Program is by Global Neighborhood for Media Innovation (GNMI), a media development organization that bridges the gap between media, civil society and diverse communities, and works to empower and enable Pakistani journalists. Broadcast journalist Najia Asher is the founding president of GNMI.
The program’s first phase is a series of training and workshops for journalists, divided in three cohorts; Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
In the second phase, startup ideas from 20 selected participants from across the three cohorts will enter an acceleration program, and receive one-on-one mentorship from experts and trainers.
