The Super Eight stage of the National T20 Cup culminated with a one-sided affair as Karachi Whites showcased their prowess, defeating Rawalpindi by a commanding margin of 86 runs at the National Bank Stadium.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Karachi Whites faced an early hiccup with the dismissal of Ammad Alam. However, Omair Bin Yousuf steadied the ship with an impressive 46 off 39 deliveries, anchoring the innings. A vital partnership between Danish Aziz (43) and Azam Khan (34 not out) further bolstered the total to a competitive 170 for the loss of five wickets. Rawalpindi’s Jahandad Khan managed to secure three crucial wickets.
Rawalpindi’s chase never gained traction as Karachi Whites’ bowlers displayed remarkable precision. Sohail Khan and Anwar Ali initiated the onslaught, dismissing the top order in quick succession. The Rawalpindi batters struggled to settle, succumbing to regular blows. Mohammad Nawaz’s resilient 32 off 21 balls was a solitary bright spot in an otherwise faltering chase. Leg-spinner Arif Yaqoob made significant inroads, claiming three wickets and asserting his dominance as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament.
Rawalpindi eventually capitulated for a mere 84 runs in 14.1 overs, succumbing to the relentless bowling prowess of Karachi Whites. Danish Aziz emerged as the standout performer, earning the Player of the Match accolade for his valuable contributions with both bat and ball.
With this commanding victory, Karachi Whites have secured a spot in the semi-finals and will face Rawalpindi once again tomorrow in a high-stakes clash at the same venue, vying for a spot in the tournament finals.
