Karachi Whites Hold Upper Hand as Faisalabad Struggles in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Final

Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24 final saw Karachi Whites amass a mammoth first-innings total of 543 all out, putting Faisalabad under immense pressure. However, Faisalabad’s reply during the final session of day two proved to be challenging, as they lost four key wickets, finishing at 76-4, trailing by 467 runs.

Faisalabad’s first innings was dominated by Karachi Whites’ pacers as they dismissed Muhammad Huraira, Taimoor Sultan, Ali Waqas, and Asif Ali. Taimoor Sultan was an early casualty, being caught by Ghazi Ghouri off the bowling of Shahnawaz Dahani, without scoring a run. Muhammad Huraira partnered with Ali Waqas, and their stand added 34 runs to the total. However, Mir Hamza disrupted their partnership, taking the wickets of Huraira (17 off 52 balls) and Ali Waqas (27 off 44 balls) in quick succession.

Right-handed batter Asif Ali contributed only three runs from 24 deliveries before being dismissed. The unbeaten batters at the close of play were Muhammad Irfan Khan (12 not out) and Ali Shan (9 not out).

Earlier in the day, Karachi Whites continued their first-innings onslaught. Saim Ayub, who had an impressive double century on the first day, added only three more runs to his total before being caught by Ali Shan off the bowling of Khurram Shahzad. Karachi Whites’ captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed, was instrumental in building the innings, contributing 45 runs off 67 balls.

Omair Bin Yousuf and Ghazi Ghouri couldn’t make significant contributions, and Test veteran Asad Shafiq scored 25 runs from 47 balls. Noman Ali was dismissed by Arshad Iqbal after scoring just nine runs.

Mir Hamza played with enthusiasm, adding 33 runs off 38 balls, featuring six fours and one maximum. Shahnawaz Dahani was the last man to be dismissed after making 10 runs off 12 balls.

Karachi Whites’ pacers, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Ali, and Arshad Iqbal, all returned with three wickets each, further solidifying their dominant position in the final.
