Karachi Whites asserted their dominance in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24 final on the third day of play, posting 238-5 in their second innings. Faisalabad struggled, managing just 124 runs in their first innings and losing their remaining six wickets early in the day.
Opening batsman Khurram Manzoor was dismissed on the very first ball of the innings, clean bowled by Khurram Shahzad. However, 21-year-old Saim Ayub continued to shine, crafting a remarkable inning with 109 runs off 179 balls, becoming the match’s only centurion. Saim’s performance was historic as he became the first player to score a double century and a century in a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final.
Shan Masood and Asad Shafiq also made notable contributions with half-centuries. Shan Masood played a rapid knock of 51 off just 26 deliveries but was run-out. Meanwhile, Asad Shafiq stood unbeaten at 60 not out off 140 balls.
Omair Bin Yousuf was dismissed without scoring, caught by wicket-keeper Ali Shan off Mohammad Ali’s bowling. Skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed had a brief stay at the crease, accumulating just one run before the end of the day.
Earlier in the match, Faisalabad’s batters, Muhammad Irfan Khan and Ali Shan, scored 32 and nine runs, respectively.
Ali Asfand contributed a mere five runs before losing his wicket to Shahnawaz Dahani, and Khurram Shahzad made three runs before being caught by Omair Bin Yousuf, courtesy of Mir Hamza’s bowling.
Mir Hamza, the left-arm pacer for Karachi Whites, registered his 29th first-class five-wicket haul, while Shahnawaz Dahani achieved his career-best figures of 4-50.
