In a thrilling contest at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi Whites showcased their mettle, securing a resounding victory against Sialkot in the 20th match of the Super Eight stage of National T20 Cup 2023-24. Asad Shafiq’s led side outshone Sialkot by six wickets with 12 deliveries to spare, successfully chasing down the 166-run target.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Sialkot faced early jolts as the Karachi Whites bowlers wreaked havoc, claiming three pivotal wickets within the powerplay. The Sialkot batting unit struggled to stabilize, teetering at 60-4 in seven overs.
Shoaib Malik, the seasoned campaigner, emerged as the lynchpin for Sialkot, crafting a valuable 54 runs off 44 deliveries, steering his team towards a competitive total. Supported by Bilal Asif’s brisk 22, Sialkot reached 165-9 in their stipulated 20 overs. Sohail Khan’s brilliance with the ball stood out as he claimed three crucial wickets, well-supported by Aftab Ibrahim and Danish Aziz, who clinched two wickets each.
Karachi Whites commenced their chase on a blazing note, courtesy of an explosive innings by Ammad Alam. The aggressive opener blazed a fiery 43 off just 16 deliveries, featuring a display of five towering sixes and two boundaries. However, his fireworks were curtailed by Usman Khalid’s delivery, marking a momentary lapse in the Karachi Whites’ chase.
A brief wobble ensued in Karachi’s middle order, but Azam Khan emerged as the knight in shining armor. His scintillating unbeaten 59 off 24 balls, embellished with a flurry of boundaries and towering sixes, rejuvenated Karachi’s innings. Azam’s belligerent knock steered his team to a comfortable victory, snatching the momentum back and ensuring Karachi Whites reached the target with aplomb.
Sialkot’s bowling effort was spearheaded by Mohammad Abbas and Usman Khalid, who managed to claim two wickets each, but their endeavors fell short in the face of Azam Khan’s scorching assault.
Azam Khan’s match-winning heroics rightly earned him the Player of the Match accolade, embellishing Karachi Whites’ emphatic triumph, consolidating their position in the Super Eight stage of the tournament.
