Lahore Blues Secure First Win, Rain Forces Draw in Lahore Whites vs. Rawalpindi Clash in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2023-24

Lahore Blues, under the leadership of Imran Butt, clinched their first victory of the season, while heavy rain interrupted the match between Lahore Whites and Rawalpindi, resulting in a draw. Karachi Whites and Faisalabad, despite an attempt to enforce a follow-on, also settled for a draw, as did Multan and Peshawar.

Lahore Whites vs. Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi commenced the day at 232-1, showing promise for an exciting finish. Unfortunately, play could not resume on the final day due to persistent heavy rain in Lahore. Consequently, the match ended in a draw.

Karachi Whites vs. Faisalabad

At the start of the day, Faisalabad, struggling at 63-6, still trailed by 371 runs. Ghulam Mudassar’s impressive five-wicket haul for Karachi Whites limited Faisalabad to 122 in their first innings, prompting a follow-on.

In their second innings, Faisalabad fared better, losing just one wicket and accumulating 103 runs. Despite the match entering its final session and Faisalabad having nine wickets in hand, a result seemed unlikely, leading to a draw.

Peshawar vs. Multan

Multan began their final day’s batting with a deficit of 263 runs. Although a result appeared improbable, they managed to reduce the gap. Opener Zain Abbas contributed 62 runs, and Sharoon Siraj added 70. Peshawar, led by Abbas Afridi’s four wickets and Mohammad Ilyas’ two, kept taking periodic wickets.

Ultimately, Multan reached 286-7 after batting for 90 overs, securing a draw.

FATA vs. Lahore Blues

FATA started the day at 127-4 and managed to reach 214 before being bowled out by Lahore Blues. Ali Shafiq’s five-wicket haul played a pivotal role in the Blues’ impressive bowling performance.

In their final innings, Lahore Blues, requiring just 40 runs to win, saw captain Imran Butt anchor the chase with 22 runs. Butt received support from Umar Siddiq (9) and Usman Salahuddin (4) as they secured a comfortable nine-wicket victory.

Result: Lahore Blues won by 9 wickets.
