In a recent development in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lahore Qalandars’ all-rounder Sikandar Raza has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the league’s code of conduct. The breach occurred during the Lahore Qalandars vs Quetta Gladiators match held at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on Sunday night.
The incident in question involved Sikandar Raza displaying dissent at an umpire’s decision on three separate occasions during the game. Raza raised his arms, shook his head, and gestured that the delivery should have been called a wide ball. This action led to a violation of article 2.8 of the PSL’s code of conduct, which pertains to a player showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during a match.
On-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and Rashid Riaz identified the breach, subsequently leveling the charge against Sikandar Raza. Following due process, match referee Ali Naqvi imposed the fine as per the league’s regulations.
The fine serves as a reminder to players and teams participating in the PSL to uphold the spirit of the game and respect the decisions made by match officials. Dissent towards umpires’ decisions undermines the integrity of the sport and is not tolerated under the league’s code of conduct.
Sikandar Raza, a seasoned campaigner in T20 cricket, will be expected to adhere to the highest standards of sportsmanship moving forward, setting a positive example for his teammates and fellow competitors.
As the PSL season progresses, the focus remains on the thrilling cricketing action on the field, with players expected to compete with passion and sportsmanship while maintaining the highest level of respect for match officials and the rules of the game.
